A devouring need for music, any music which attracts my attention, has led me to the international avantgarde guru John Cage, probably one of the least popular creators of music, as well as to one of the most generally popular figures in my surroundings, our national Danish icon of so-called pop music, Lars Lilholt. Two individuals with both of whom I have had direct personal contact and from whom I have learned important personal lessons. Coming from diagonally opposed corners of contemporary music, the conversations Lilholt and I have in this book provoked us both to lower the protective parades and find ourselves listening to each other. And indeed to the music of each other. Reminding ourselves that music must always be heard and felt, not intellectually understood. "I thought you were from outer space", Lars quipped. "But I realise that you are in fact from our inner Jutland!”
